Hip hop cares season has returned and
as always 013 got in touch with one of the HHC team to get an inside story, the
great ape Mr Mandisi Kekana AKA Dizz spoke to us. New venue, new look awards
same apes.
Wise: All right cool anyway what's up my
guy?
Dizz: I'm well brother, you?
Wise: I am great. Uhm where do we start, oh yah, the 17th of December
is just 5 days away from us, how is the mood in the camp of HHC team?
Dizz: Excitement with a dash of anxiousity. Everyone is trying to
figure out what did we not cover. What more can we do to add on to the
gig.
This is one of a kind coz for the first time we outsourced individuals
to take on tasks and decisions we can’t; Time was not on our side.
Wise: Sounds like y'll are going all out to show this town that apes
means business. And talking about apes, the day shall is going to be
known as ape republic day. Who came with the concept and why?
Dizz: The concept goes deeper than face value but yet its origins are
so simple and petty if you may have it.
I was doing research on Apes and human anatomy, DNA similarity and so forth. I reported some of my findings on social media and a rougue
Facebook page called The Hip Hop movement or something like that got
personal with me stating I speak of apes cos I look like one.
I entertained the joke to a point where I drew inspiration from it.
We Hip Hop lovers, comrades and followers are dehumanized all the
time. Burgersfort also has social classes where other people look down
on others depending on their family earning and personal success.
Hip Hop Cares as an organization has suffered such stereotyping where
people looked at its custodians and deemed it not to be good enough
for their social status.
In planet of the apes we see Caesar lead the apes from jungle junk to
organized wild potential. See the parallels. We are saying Hip Hop
Cares will take what is taken for granted and turn it into regal
fountains.
Everyone can be someone and we present that chance regardless of class.
Hence we asked our followers to dress up even if it’s for one night.
Wise: Ma man. So the apes are invading Burgersfort Cappello, what made
your team to choose this new space?
Dizz: It befits our theme, ambitions and the levels we aim to conquer.
It’s a central spot. It will be easy for people to access it. A new
market can be realized here as such a space attracts a different breed
of people.
Perspectives change when you change constants
Wise: I agree. Just saw the new awards classy I must say this whole
development shows a major growth and growth comes with changes. What
is ya'll hoping should change in terms of this event attendance in terms of Behaviour, dress code etc.?
Dizz: Mind-set. Everything else will follow.
If people seek to understand why we work so hard they will realize it
goes beyond a gig on a Saturday. We are some family's hope this
Christmas. In January there are children who will look to us for a
dignified starter pack. We are in the long run scholarships, Youth
social programs, Economic empowerment, We are an artist's hope and
break through . If people can see this then the rest automatically
change.
In a more shallow approach, we hope to see more people at the gig who
are willing to donate and have fun with local and borrowed talent from
other provinces. We hope people dress up for this night and really
make it the glits and glamour it deserves
Wise: Talking about children and under privileged families. What are we
asking for and what is the entrance damage?
Dizz: We encourage people to be involved in aiding our under
privileged families. We ask R30 + an item of donation, i.e. any of the
following;
- decent shoes
- clean clothing
- sanitary towels + other toiletries
- shopping vouchers
- non-perishable foods
Wise: Some people always question the movement, lately there was some
bad breath that the organisers treat these awards as if they are some
major TV awards? Please address that
Dizz: 'Treat these awards as some major TV awards..?'
I suppose we do take our work seriously to deliver the best events all
round. An award giving ceremony is place of honouring people for their
greatness. It is our nature to present only the best which in turn
build the brand. Bad breath is the breath that aids us in reaching the
less privileged.
Wise: True that. And we know that Cappello foods and beverages
business, on the ape republic day. What is and not allowed in the
premises?
Dizz: Ape Republic Day.. Thank you for the recognition sir.
Cappello is a very reputable place, open to the public. On this
particular day for the event.. all people of shape, colour, click or
clan are allowed to join us for this prestigious event.
We will not allow any of the following;
- cooler boxes
- narcotics
- fire arms
- weapons of any nature
Wise: Ma man, Any last statement to our audiences?
Dizz: Yeap.. Don’t be stuck in the FOMO league on the day. Be an Ape
Republican and claim your rightful spot come the 17th Dec 2016. There
will be secret prizes won on the night. And who knows, we might
upgrade your tickets to vvip. Everyone is a vip. Make sure to bring
your A game. You don't wanna be left out on this #ApeSwag.
Wise: Ma guy thank you for your time. Power to the Apes
